I am totally new to webdesign. I’d like create an online community, in which people can post pictures as well as text, and submit ratings on things (sorry for the vagueness). I have a design in mind. I’m not an idiot when it comes to computers, however, I have no experience when it comes to website creation. I’ve heard I should use dreamweaver. Is it user friendly? How hard will it be for me to pickup? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

You could try Pier, which is a combination wiki and content management system that is open (you can modify the way it works).

I found it one time but I can’t remember the name. You can create your own profile and either submit designs like logos, business cards, and website designs or create criteria for your own company. The person making an offer decides which design they like best and pays the designer for it.
I’m not looking for a place to buy a logo. I’m looking for a specific site where you can create one so others can review.

Are you looking for http://www.designbay.com

They have logo, web and other graphic design contests or freelance jobs which you can submit quotes for.

I have recently decided that I would like to become either a web designer or web developer…I spend quite a bit of time online and really would like to learn how to build my own website. I am thinking of taking a few courses at the Art institute of Washington so I can get a diploma in web design. I suppose I just wanted to ask if it would be worth while for me to do so? I see many job listing around the area for web designers so I wouldn’t have a problem finding work if I have a good enough portfolio but is web design a good career path to choose?

Web design and development is a good field right now. Most corporate jobs would go to people with four year degrees with a web design certification, but if you’re good enough, you might be able to start your own business and find clients without a degree. Most clients would expect you to do both the design and the development, and provide or arrange for the hosting – they’ll expect one-stop shopping for their site.

Good luck.

From the time I was eleven I’ve been into designing websites. Now I’m eighteen years old and looking into pursing web design as a career.I’m not stupid,I know that what I know about web design now isn’t nearly enough to get a job with.I’m planning on either going to college or taking a course on web design, but before I can make this kind of choice I need to know:

Is it difficult to break into the web design industry, even with proof of college or college level education and a portfolio?

Not hard

Start by learning HTML

then go to java, flash, php, peral, CGI-bin, and all others lol
