e-commerce web design?
27.January, 2010
I run a web design company and i regularly get clients asking about e-commerce sites, i’m not sure how to do them yet so i have come here to ask.
do web designers out there just get an open source ecommerce software and edit the themes to integrate into a clients website or do they build their own?
how should i go about offering ecommerce, and what should i use software wise
Thanks
As said above, but free e-commerce scripts are usually full of bugs.
Large systems, like Joomla, Drupal, Miva or Os-commerce are very complex to use and have HUUUGE amount of stuff you will never need (install 26mb!).
I personally find them a total waste of time.
Here are the basic specs of simple e-commerce:
E-Commerce basic specs
Home page:
6 areas:
- Banner
- Navbar (or menu)
- Main
- Footer
- Login
- basket/cashier buttons
Any area can be horizontal or vertical
login and basket can be included in any other area.
All area contents can be changed through AJAX.
Navbar leads to separate pages or catalogue items.
Catalogue:
- Items referenced by
- Categories
- Itemno
- Subinfo (ie size, colours)
- Each item has two images:
- small
- large
- Catalogue menu extracted from categories in DB (autolist)
- in NAVBAR area
- Select category shows thumbnails of all items of that category
- in "main" area
- Select thumbnail to bring Item full details with
- in "main" area
- add to basket
Login:
- Enter Username/password and login button
- Register button
- Password Recovery button
- My details button (edit or delete account)
Basket:
- Show/edit basket content in session
- Cashier button
Cashier:
- View basket, confirm.
- If not logged in, register form
- Go to PayPal.
- On return, email with order details to user
Paypal:
- Cashier payments through PayPal
Admin:
- Users:
Browse, search users
alter data, access levels
create new users
- Items:
Add, delete, edit items
Browse and search items, to view/edit
- Orders:
Browse orders
- Accounts:
list of bank transactions
list of accounts and status
You can the whole of it in less than 200kb of code! (Not if you use Dreamweaver, of course: you’ll never make it. Use Notepad++ to edit your code.)
How I get site links in Google search?
17.January, 2010
Hi, to all http://pravalikadesigns.com this is my site. when I search "Pravalikadesigns" in Google I am getting homepage link only how I can get sub links followed by home page…
Link this..
Pravalika Designs http://pravalikadesigns.com ….
"SEO" "Web Hosting"
"Web Design" "E-Commerce" ……
Can any body help me how I can get like above….
Well congrats. You have done it. A back link from a site like this will get you listed pretty darn quickly. Now that it’s up…just as long as you don’t get booted…you should be listed in under 4 days. My last site was listed in Google in under 3 just by having a back link on here. But maybe you already knew that…..hmmm.
E-Commerce websites without knowing web design?
15.December, 2009
I need to build an e-commerce website and I have absolutely zero web design skills. I dont even know how to upload a file using dream weaver. I needed help changing my nameservers. However, despite my limitations, I still need an e-commerce site.
I need a site that is affordable. I dont want to pay more than a few hundred dollars, including hosting.
I need paypal integration.
I need to be able to upload my own graphic backgrounds, not just use ready made templates, unless those templates allow me to use my own photos for background images.
I need to be able to categorize my items by type and size, and put 1 item into multiple categories.
I need to be able to stock items by attribute. 1 item may be available in multiple sizes. I dont want to have to create multiple listings for the same item in different sizes, and I want my inventory to stock by size and attribute as well.
I want it to be simple and affordable.
Is there anything out there that is up to my specifications?
If you want all this done you will probably need to hire a web programmer, which, by the looks of it, could cost a few hundred dollars.
From what i can see, you have sorting items, you would be using a database.
look into databases with MySQL and also look into PHP
I run my own music blog, & I am looking for something, or someone to design a banner for it.?
21.November, 2009
I have a good knowledge of computer software & quite alot about running websites, as I work for an e-commerce company, however, I’m pretty crap at web design.
So I need a decent, easy to use bit of software to design a banner for my blog: www.marksurbanreview.blogspot.com
If not, then I need someone to design me a banner, at a good price.
I’ll do it for a chocolate biscuit?
How much would you pay per hour for a web designer?
19.November, 2009
I am targetting small businesses for small websites. Nothing special, no e-commerce, just a web presence. A three page website. What would you pay for that? And does your estimate include all charges (hosting, domain and design)? And what would you pay for updates to your website?
Examples:
A: www.thewebdoor.net
B: www.getaktiv.net
C. www.centraloregonacupunctue.com
Are you providing flash? Rolling text? Animation? Multi-color? Back drop?
Or are you putting together something as watered down as Yahoo answers for example?
If it’s a watered down, generic template than I would say $100 would be fine. It would probably take a entry-level designer approx. 45 mins to put it together. But keep in mind that it must be secure.
Hosting? There are companies that will host a site for as little as $2.99/mo. Domain, that is another $24.00/yr, and again the design is can be as piss poor, or elaborate. Depending on the creativity, and knowledge of the designer. Your question is too basic. It’s almost like asking a person how much they are willing to pay for an automobile.
Why not offer e-commerce? It’s not that difficult to implement. And many small business not only want a presence, but the ability to sell on the internet as well. It reduces there overhead, and is an easy transaction. With the cost of gas increasing, you will find online buyers increasing as well.
Just my opinion though.
What is the best web design company in London? only 18+?
17.November, 2009
Im looking for face to face web design company (e commerce) who can listen and deliver to my web design adult idea. They need to have an office in London.
My budget is £2000
Thanks.
Sadly you won’t get a lot with that budget. At say minimum £500/day for a London agency, it will run out quickly.
How do i set up a online store?
14.November, 2009
I’m currently in school for web design. I’m proficient with xhtml, css, and flash. I have a client that would like to sell their t shirts online. I have never designed a e-commerce site before. What would be a good route to take when desiging a e-commerce site? I thought about oscommerce and a yahoo merchant account. What should i do?
I would recommend a solution which manages content dynamically. If you apply a theme to a shopping cart that provides this capability, your friend can manage the content and the business while developing web skills over time.
Begin by reviewing several shopping cart packages. Unless you are prepared to learn programming, leave the cart structure to programmers, and select one which:
1. plays to your strengths in site building
2. is easy for your friend to use
3. offers the feature list which can best support the business.
This might well be Magento, but Zen Cart is a good candidate as well. osCommerce may be a bit more time consuming to modify, and likely would not support all the features needed out of the box for this type of business. My background is in PHP/MySQL Open Source – but don’t neglect other technologies.
Desperately Need Advice regarding E-commerce Website!?
11.November, 2009
am student (Web Design) and I have just started to build my Portfolio. Everything has been going really great – but now I have an Ecommerce site and I am in way over my head. Initially, the client was going to be selling a few items, and just wanted a shopping cart. Now, it has turned into a full blown ecommerce site. He wants buyers to be able to create a login that will remember their credit card information, he wants to accept all major credit cards apart from Paypal, and he wants to transactions to be processed instantly. Basically he wants amazon.com. I know that this is where I need to learn PHP and My SQL. Here is my dilemma – do I back out now and give him his money back, or do I push through? I have looked at store "templates" but there doesn’t seem to be anything I can integrate into my site. ANY suggestions would be VERY MUCH appreciated.
