I would like to eventually start a webdesign at home business, with myself as the only employee. Do I have to register as an LLC or INC. for taxing puposes? Is there a benefit to either one?

I’m very interested in html and web design and I decided to make a webpage of my own. I have links and pictures, but I don’t know what else to put there. I don’t want it to look boring either but it probably will since its about me my friends and family. I just want something to do in my freetime and I really like webdesign I just need ideas.

I am starting a web design business and am going to register my domain name. I have been told that I should have the words "webdesign" in my domain name.

For example, if my design company will be called "Blue Monkey", I’m told my main domain name should be "bluemonkeywebdesign.com" rather than just "bluemonkey.com"

Does anyone agree or disagree with this thinking? I was all set to just buy the domain name without the "webdesign" part because I thought the shorter it is, the better it is.

Any thoughts?

Same here, short and sweet. People giving you that advice should stop reading articles from 1995.

Ok. I read this article recently, it was on digg.com, I can’t find it anymore. It basically said how much the running cost would be to hire web development (top of the line almost).

Basically, it was like there was 4 different sectors, and each got 101 dollars per hour.

If anyone can find that page for me, or find a similar page on what is the running prices and stuff. I do webdesign, it’s just that this guy wants me to work for 8 dollars an hour, and I want to show him this link I found that has just 1 part of the team making 100 dollars per hour, when this guy wants to pay me 8 dollars per hour for everything.

Of course it depends on what country you’re in and how good you are as to whether you can reach that sort of fee or not – starting off at $100/hour is unlikely without commercial experience – if you don’t have any customers yet, you should pitch a lot lower at first.

I want to improve with my webdesign and get more professional. So i’m asking which would be better..

taking a web design class or getting something like webdesign for dummies?

If you’re not getting a degree and just taking a class then I’d say it’s a waste of money, buying a book is not a good idea either, a good design book can cost hundreds.

The internet can provide enough information and it’s free. I’ve learned and mastered Photoshop by reading online, and have taken a required design course after the fact and they weren’t able to teach me anything I didn’t already teach myself.

i want to get into graphic design. i use to be a webdesign major, but decided for a change. i start school again next sememster, but want to start finding a job with it now. should i put together a portfolio including my webdsign jobs as well? would people be turned off to me if i include this stuff?

you should added your portfolio not just with web designs.
you can added some of your graphic, or visual art, and of course freehand drawing.
people are more interested with your basic concept. basic idea.
about how you manage your lay-out and proportion, colors picking and blending, and originality.

i am a graphic designer, for 6 years, and i have this somekind designhouse to collect and gather the designers in my city. just for trading concept, sharing idea, even we could work together in some occassion. so my other job is to select what best in design and the designer.
