Is going to school for web design worth it?
15.October, 2009
theres a webdesign program for 10k that includes html, xhtml , javascrpit , photshop, css, dreamweaver and e-business. its a 1 year program at a private college but its 10k. Not worth it cause its the basic. But what are the advance stuff that are worth paying for to learn at a college??
I think that a school for webdesign is not necessary because you can learn webdesign from the tutorials available online but going to such a school could make you learn faster from experienced people.
Graphic Design?!?
11.October, 2009
Hello.
Im looking into a Computer Graphics Technology course at my College. The first year program-a one-year foundation certificate-teaches you the basics, and also lets you select a specility to focas on from there.
That is my problem.
All I have ever done is forum graphics, just stuff in Photoshop.
The specelties they offer is: animation, web design, multimedia, publishing and webdesign.
So is webdesign, like HTML, and makeing sites? What is Publishing, typography (sp), storyboarding, and screening
Im HORRIBLE with Math (very Special ed.).
I dont know if Id want to do Game Design, or, Animation.
Is 2D Animation like normal cartoons, and 3D like Pixar stuff?
And Graphic Design, in the work-force, is probbaly makeing posters, banners, ads. Right?
I need help please.
I dont understand what they list as Specilties…
Is Screening like T-shirt screening?
What the hell is publishing…
I’m really intrested in Game Design, and Animation.
But Animation…2D or 3D, am I right in thinking 3D is more of the new Pixar type of Animation?
And I know there is usually a Team of Designers on a Game, do you know the diffrent types?
What you’ve done would fall under Publishing or Screening. Typography is basically typing, storyboarding I’d avoid as it’s not as widely used as others and would be harder to get a job in.
Game design and animation are rather difficult and very time consuming.
Graphic design in the work-force usually falls under printed advertising, much like you’re thinking, however unless you fully intend to live in Chicago, Los Angeles or New York, you’ll likely have a difficult time finding a job.
The pay isn’t as good as people like to say it is, having a degree isn’t really an advantage as so many people "claim" to be a designer and have no real training. Thanks to them, the real graphic designers are out on their butts. That’s what happens when we want to make a fair wage and the fakers will work for practically nothing (at least they’re not at McDonalds…where they should be)
Another option is to do freelance, you can actually make more doing that than working for someone. The problem with it is that you never know how much you’ll be bringing in, so it makes living on your own a bit…difficult.

Which Web Design company is the best?
07.October, 2009
I was looking around yahoo and google and found alot of $3000 web design companies! I want something cheap and good!
than i found w-webdesign.com? anybody knows about them….i asked for a quote and they said it would be $330 for a website for a small business….
is that price okay?? or to much???
sorry for all these questions i just want to choose the right!
I don’t know anything about w-webdesign.com but $330 for a small business website is pretty reasonable. If your looking for something cheap but still good then I would suggest Homestead. Their website builder although fairly basic is so easy to use.
If your looking for something more advanced but still user friendly then try XsitePro, Site Builder Designs or Calvary Studios, they have everything you need in building your own website: domain name registration or domain transfer, web hosting, web builder, site maintenance and email accounts. Everything is laid out in an easy to follow step by step instruction. Some of the features included enable you to add your own themes, videos, images or mp3 music making your site unique to you. Pricing is comparable and affordable too.
I hope that I was of some help and answered your question.

You could buy a copy of Jeffrey Zeldman’s book "Designing with Web Standards" and read it cover to cover. That’s how I learnt. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/redirect?link_code=as2&path=ASIN/0321385551&tag=httpwwwkingco-21&camp=1634&creative=6738
At http://www.glish.com/css you can learn about page layout with CSS.
Visit http://www.csszengarden.com to see how great CSS sites can look.
Read the articles on http://alistapart.com for some imaginative solutions to coding problems.
Finally, read anything by Eric Meyer – his website is at http://meyerweb.com/eric/css and his excellent book on CSS is at http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/redirect?link_code=as2&path=ASIN/073571245X&tag=httpwwwkingco-21&camp=1634&creative=6738.
How to use Forms in webdesign?
29.September, 2009
I made this form that people will fill out. I tried using a site to help me make the form email me the information after the person fills it out but it didn’t work. Any ideas on how to get the information emailed to me?
Link to my website design:

Denise,
That takes me to an email application so I can email the info… i want it to email it automatically. Does that make sense?
Put this line of code in:
<form action=
"mailto:YOUREMAILHERE
?subject=form submission"
method="post"
enctype="text/plain">
(Take out the line breaks so it is all one sentence.)
How can i get someone to design my website for free?
26.September, 2009
Would like it quite professional nothing too flashy, but competent. We’re a new business and we have no capital for good webdesign, maybe we can offer something like their name advertised at the bottom "webdesign by…." or maybe there is a charity that would do it for us! please help!!!
"Website designed by" is standard even when paying for a site. Normally a client pays more to remove it.
I would say you need another small company and give them large adspace they can resell… otherwise, it will cost you for professional development.
You get what you pay for.
