I need to make a website that has a questionnaire on it that users can fill out. The questions need to be of the kind where depending on what your answer is to number one, the second question will be different, and depending on your answer to the second question, the third will be different, etc. Eventually this series of adapting questions will lead to a specific classification.

I see the term "computerized adaptive testing" usually refers to testing designed to assess somebody’s ability or knowledge/skill level, and it does this by classifying a series of questions as easy, medium, difficult, etc, and then quickly establishing what level of question the test taker can consistently get right.

This is not what I am looking for, what I am looking for is much more simple. Essentially just like a choose your own adventure novel. Is there a way of doing this that isn’t going to involve building all the possible answers as separate web pages?

A self-contained test would be ideal. If anyone knows of anything that would be helpful, and preferably free or cheap, then it would be MUCH appreciated.

All the best
