hello. I want to start a website but i dont know the steps involved in hosting and as well im looking for cheap but reliable hosts. Can any 1 please just help by givin me the steps invloved? and as well how do u get profit from your sites?. Also do you pay monthly or do u pay once?
i have done some websites even winning awards in college but hav not really hosted any since it was all academic.
You would have to buy a domain name (like something.com) and hosting.
I recommend one of these: http://www.hosttell.com/
Powweb is on a 50% sale – $3.88/month ($46.56/year), and you get a free domain from them.
Godaddy doesn’t offer a free domain, but you can get one for $2.19 if you’re buying hosting from them, plus they also have a 20% sale at the moment.

Hi, i dont think you would actually want to be a web hostess! That would entail you in having to spend a lot of money on servers etc. I believe what you need is a free site to host your web site. Try this out,it is free and gives you all the info required to make your own web site.

There are many small packages out there with you in mind. I would disagree with getting a free package, I would pay the small amount as it gives me leverage if something goes wrong, i.e. I AM A PAYING CUSTOMER.
It would be managed by the company, meaning you don’t need to maintain it.
Anything free normally entails some sort of disapointment in the future, but don’t take my word for it, try the free ones and keep an up to date copy of your site backed up on your home/office machine. If you aren’t satisfied you can always take my advice and pay a little.
P.S. Try to think in advance exactly what it is you will be using on the site i.e. What server side languages you may be using (PHP, ASP, Python, Ruby on Rails etc). Make sure that the service you get has all of these. Also, if you are going to sell things on your site, you made need an SSL certificate, which again, could cost you.
Really think about what you want to do, then research till your eyes hurt looking at the monitor exactly what it is you will need.

There are plenty of very nice low-cost or even free hosting services. I’ve had great success with freehostia. http://www.freehostia.com. The free site has all you need for a basic page including php, mysql, a number of common CMS installations (drupal, websitebaker, phpbb, and so on) and decent support and uptime, even for the free service. The free site does not contain any ads.
If you do want to register a domain name to the site, you’ll need to purchase a domain name (typically about $10 / year) or pay to have your domain transferred from another site (another $10)
If you’re going to be serious about your sites, you’ll probably want to upgrade to a commercial site, which can cost $2 – $5 per month (or more, of course) for business sites. This is quite a bit cheaper than goDaddy or some of the other larger domains.
If you’re already pretty good at the HTML / XHTML / CSS aspects, you can always build your sites on your local machine and then use an FTP program to transfer your pages to the remote server. I like FileZilla because it’s free and very powerful. I also like FireFTP because it integrates into FireFox so I always have it one button away.
Just transfer your files to the server with your FTP program, making sure they’re in the proper directory. (Typically you’ll need to read the documentation. It’ll be your domain name, www, web, htdocs, or public_html, (usually) depending on how the server is configured.
Test your pages on the server, and you’re ready to go!
Most sites also allow you to edit pages directly on the server through a simple text editor or a widget like fckEdit. This is useful enough for touch-up, but you’ll probably be a lot better off with some sort of complete editor (like aptana) on your local machine, or a content management system on the server.
I’ve got a lot more information in my book, so stop by my web site and look over the examples or drop me a line on the message board…
Best of luck to you.

The price is by the month, but you save money if you pay by the year (or, in some cases, for a few years in advance – I’m paying a little over $3/month for a small site with a great hosting company).
Check the different hosting companies to see what they offer. If you’ve written sites you don’t need a site builder program, but you probably want CPanel to administer the site, you definitely want high speed, and you most likely want great (not just good) tech support.
One way to check them out is to call tech support and tell them what you’ve posted here – that you’ve written web sites, but never had one hosted, so you need to know the steps to get one hosted. If they won’t bend over backwards to get you as a customer, they won’t be much good after they have your money.
You’ll also need a domain name. You could get one free – say with http://www.dot.tk but it would end in .tk. If you want a .com or .net or any other common tld (top level domain) name, you’ll have to buy it – from an ICANN accredited registrar – http://www.icann.org/en/registrars/accredited-list.html Most hosting companies are registrars also but, for a couple of reasons, it’s a good idea to get your domain name from someone other than your host.

Hosting is a service you rent, designing a site is unrelated; I am running a startup for designing but even I have to get hosting service as a customer myself, the steps are simple, mainly you only had to do it through a hosting company’s ordering process, how exactly that ordering process is varies, mine order was linked with PayPal. My hoster does offer that as payment option so that was what I chose. Monthly but yearly lump sum with some incentives usually exist alongside.
Mine own design startup is http://www.i18n-web.com and I use a hoster called Byet Internet with PHP. The cost is less than $40 US per year. Had them for little more than a year now.

As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.
If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.
As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.
